Why Learning Mastery Paths

Providing students a choice in how they complete your course can increase motivation and learning. One way you can do this is by adding assignments to your course and tell them to "pick one of the following." Unfortunately, what can happen there is that students are then presented with too many choices. Some students may be overwhelmed and try to complete all of the assignments instead of one. This can lead to stress on their end and additional grading on your end.

Learning Mastery Paths provides a way to assign work dynamically based on a prior assessment. This can be as simple as a 2 question quiz that asks students which assignment they wish to complete for the module or as complex as a pre-assessment that releases remedial content if they score below a threshold or optional content for those that demonstrate mastery.

Student View

The following walks through the student view of Learning Mastery Paths. I cover a couple different ways to use the feature. One where a student can change what assignment they pick, and another where they are presented with a menu of options to complete. These are basic examples and things can get much more complex.
